Christopher Evan Welch was fully deserving of having the lights dimmed based on the quality and quantity of his work in the theater, but it seems clear that sometimes fame factors greatly into the decision, whether that's fair or not. There are many stage actors and other theater artists who were arguably as deserving of the honor, if not more so, than some of the honorees who have been mentioned in this thread, but they just didn't approach that level of fame.
