I can't say who is right about what the OP meant, but I don't think Roth's astuteness came into play, because I think he would have done it anyway, and I think he would have known that even before the meeting. As a side point, I also think that all of this is what happens when you dilute the meaning of the dimming, as they have done. Were the past honorees all major Broadway figures, we would not be having this discussion. Again the baseball analogy tells us something as it relates to the retirement of numbers.
