O.K. we'll do it - but not when anyone's gonna notice it.

What no one realized on the dimming of the lights. I was on 44th Street in From of the Helen Hayes where Joan did SALLY MARS.... ... Across the street on the marquee above it was projected the image of Joan celebrating the dimming of the lights, the Broadhurst Theatre. How doubly significant this all was because this is where BROADWAY BOUND played and Joan was the replacement in the cast. So it was a double header. FUN CITY played at the Morosco.

Waiting to see the lights dim before I entered the New Amsterdam (thank you, 2-for-1 B'way Week), I saw that the Lyric across the street turned its lights off for a minute, but the New Amsterdam's lights never darkened. However, the Aladdin marquee changed to a large photo of Joan Rivers accompanied by the words "In Memoriam." Lots of people took pictures. A fitting tribute.

It was beautiful. Many people from theatre that I knew. CBS radio and nbc covered Helen Hayes. A loud cheer for two minutes and applause. Above the marquee of Mama Mia was projected Joan Rivers face. Yes Joan was on a theatre marquee and got a huge standing ovation. It was all so moving. And I could not miss this.

This might have been the most loved one as we all fought to have this done. Joan I know you are having a good time seeing the fuss that has been made the last two days. I miss you and thank you for being part of my growing up and being so great to me.

I was on 45th with a group of fellow supporters. We all honored Joan and yes took pics. I was glad to be there and that she received her honor.

I stopped to visit a friend of mine at the Kerr who gave me a copy of the Jujamcyn handout with the tribute so I have that as a keepsake as well.
