| Regardless of whether any of us believes that this event SHOULD be a major story, the fact is that it's clearly become a significant national news story. Yesterday, I happened to be watching MSNBC and KeKe was interviewed, and tonight, just a short while ago, the NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams did a five minute feature on tonight's opening. Not only was KeKe interviewed, but so was Robyn Goodman, and a few brief scenes were shown from what I assume was the dress rehearsal. (And by the way, KeKe, who has charm to spare, looked absolutely gorgeous in costume.). So the national media has clearly bought into the fact that something that they consider to be groundbreaking starts tonight. I sincerely hope that this casting attracts people of color to this wonderful show, especially kids, and from the sociological perspective, it will be interesting to see if it does. | |

| I really love KeKe Palmer, and certainly wish her well- I find her lovely to look at, enjoy her voice and have always liked her on screen. But I don't get why this is news at all. As someone below pointed out, she's only the third person to play Cinderella on Broadway at all- and it's not like someone black has never played Cinderella before, Brandi did- in the same incarnation (the R&H Cinderella I mean). KeKe Palmer is good casting for Cinderella no matter what, she's got a great voice, she's lovely and she's a "name" star that will bring people to see the show. I don't even get why they felt the need to shift the entire casting of the show around her- why couldn't black actors have been playing some of the other parts before? NOW they're putting them in, around KeKe Palmer? I don't know, this whole thing is weird to me. | |

| While watching her appearance on Good Morning America today, I had a similar reaction. I think this is the work of PR person being great at their job. I am all for non traditional casting to breathe new life into shows and breaking ground. I find Norm Lewis going into Phantom to be a great example. It is also a great reason to build a PR campaign but his role is one that has been around for more than 20 years. The role of Cinderella on Broadway has only been around a little over a year. Yes she is the first African American, but she is only the third person to play her on Broadway at all. If they were saying she was the first African American to play the part in a professional production, I would pay more attention to it. But I guess the average person won't know that the stage show has never been on Broadway before. So, BRAVO to their PR folk | |

| I just think it's a great thing that something in the performing fine arts (i.e. something other than TV and movies) is getting a bit of national attention (even if it's understood that the real news item is the race of the actress in question, more than anything having to do with the show or the performance - if the new Cinderella were white, surely it would not be a big news item at all). Whether we agree that this is big news or not, it's great to see anything like this covered nationally. | |

| A beautiful segment on NBC nightly news. I had no idea who Keke was. She was very gracious mixed with the right amount of you go girl enthusiasm. They should get Phylicia Rashad to be the fairy godmother. It made me want to see the show and I hope it brings a diverse audience in the door. Wishing Keke well on her opening | |

| I'd be surprised to discover that Phylicia Rashad could sing the role of the Godmother as written (in the soprano range). Now, if they could get Harolyn Blackwell... | |

| Where was the announcement that James Earl Jones is the first African-American to play Grandpa in YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU on Broadway? | |

| I think that is story worth of attention. The show is a classic. The actor is a legend. I wish they had the same person handling their marketing/PR as Cinderella | |
