While watching her appearance on Good Morning America today, I had a similar reaction. I think this is the work of PR person being great at their job. I am all for non traditional casting to breathe new life into shows and breaking ground. I find Norm Lewis going into Phantom to be a great example. It is also a great reason to build a PR campaign but his role is one that has been around for more than 20 years. The role of Cinderella on Broadway has only been around a little over a year. Yes she is the first African American, but she is only the third person to play her on Broadway at all. If they were saying she was the first African American to play the part in a professional production, I would pay more attention to it. But I guess the average person won't know that the stage show has never been on Broadway before. So, BRAVO to their PR folk
