I rarely say this, but I think that in this case Isherwood has a stronger understanding of the play than Murray, who seems to miss the understory that propels the larger meta-theatrical experience. To call the last scene a satire of a parody of a parody seems to neglect that it is meant to be a sentimental, honest cap to an evening that is mostly about subverting, avoiding, and condemning the truth.

I don't think "Bootycandy" is entirely successful, and I wish that O'Hara was able to find a stronger way to land his darker story of sexual dysfunction. That being said, I find it odd that Murray misses it altogether.

Link Isherwood kind of gets it, mostly likes it
