Slant Theatre Project proudly announces the world premiere production of Mat Smart’s NAPERVILLE, a comedy directed by Adam Knight. NAPERVILLE will be performed Thursday November 20th through Saturday, December 6th, 2014 Off-Broadway at the June Havoc Theatre (312 W 36th Street). The press Opening is scheduled for Monday, November 24th at 8 PM.



Howard leaves his career in Seattle and moves back home to NAPERVILLE to help his mother Candice transition after an accident leaves her blind. At the local Caribou Coffee, they cross paths with Anne, Howard's old classmate and an expert on Naperville's founder, Captain Joseph Naper. NAPERVILLE is a comedy about high school crushes, curfews (for your mother), sight, and how beauty reveals itself in the suburbs.



The cast of NAPERVILLE includes Matt Dellapina (Too Much Sun, The Dream of the Burning Boy) as Howard, Susan Greenhill (Primal Play, The Steadfast) as Candice, Stacey Yen (Eager to Lose, Love in the Wars) as Anne, Brent Langdon (The Steadfast) as Roy and Brett Epstein (the Flea) as T.C.

COMPANY BIOS


Mat Smart (Playwright). Recent productions of Mat’s plays include Samuel J. and K., which premiered at Williamstown Theatre Festival starring Justin Long and Owiso Odera (subsequent productions include Steppenwolf and Passage Theatre), The Steadfast (Slant Theatre Project), Tinkers to Evers to Chance (Geva Theatre Center), The Hopper Collection (Magic Theatre and Huntington Theatre Company), The 13th of Paris (City Theatre, Seattle Public Theatre, Horizon Theatre, Public Theatre of Maine, Warehouse Theatre and LiveWire in Chicago) and The Bebop Heard in Okinawa (O’Neill Playwrights’ Conference). He has been commissioned by South Coast Rep, Huntington, and Denver Center Theatre Company. Mat is a co-founder of Slant Theatre Project. He has an MFA from UCSD. An avid baseball fan and traveler, Mat has been to all 30 of the current MLB stadiums, all 50 states and 6 continents – including a recent stint working as a janitor at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. His play The Royal Society of Antarctica will premiere in March 2015 at The Gift Theatre in Chicago. He is currently a member of the Dorothy Strelsin New American Writer’s Group at Primary Stages.



Adam Knight (Director) has directed premieres by Lucy Alibar, Bekah Brunstetter, Matt Dellapina, Michele Lowe, David Lee Nelson, and Mat Smart, among others, at venues such as Ars Nova, E.S.T. Youngblood, HERE, Poetry Project, P.S.122, The Tank, and Cherry Lane Theatre. Recent credits: Exit Carolyn (Sans A/Drilling Company), Polaroid Stories (Strasberg), No No No Yes (Ars Nova ANT Fest). Regional: Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike (PURE Theatre), The Elephant in My Closet (WaterTower Theatre), Hamlet (College of Charleston), The 13th of Paris and Come Blow Your Horn (Millbrook Playhouse), and “Will You Please Shut Up?” (Williamstown Theatre Festival); also, workshops at Vineyard Arts Project, Cleveland Play House, SPACE at Ryder Farm, and Abingdon Theatre Company. Associate/Assistant credits: Signature Theatre, Manhattan Theatre Club, Williamstown, and Folger Shakespeare Festival. He is co-Artistic Director of Slant Theatre Project.

Brett Epstein (T.C.) Brett studied at Providence College and is now a New York based actor/writer/comedian. Brett is a member of the Flea Theater’s resident acting company the Bats. He received Advanced Study improv training at UCB. Favorite roles: Don’t Dress for Dinner (Robert– Theater Barn); Women (Carl— Hollywood Fringe Festival); Love, Sex & the IRS (Floyd– Millbrook Playhouse).



Slant Theatre Project (Producer) is led by artistic directors Matt Dellapina, Wes Grantom, Adam Knight and Mat Smart. Recently, Slant produced The Cloud by Matt Moses at HERE Arts Center and The Steadfast by Mat Smart at TBG Theatre (recently published by Dramatists Play Service). Since 2004, Slant has produced new work by artists such as Bekah Brunstetter, Theresa Rebeck, Adam Rapp, Marcus Gardley, Rachel Bonds, Sharyn Rothstein, Max Baker, Sofia Alvarez, Greg Keller, Rachel Axler, Michele Lowe, Thomas Ward, Dan O’Brien, Evan Cabnet, Lisa Kron, and many more.
