how's the rest of the cast? Any standouts in the ensemble? I hope I make it back to NY in time to catch this production!

There's a bit of discussion in the "Playbill" about the fact that the play is rarely produced, because of the difficulty of finding a lot of fine Indian (male) actors. Two in the ensemble stand out. The artist, who is one of the leads, and the tour guide, who leads a scholar on a tour of India. He is the head of an Association of teachers of English in India. He is very funny, a bundle of nerves and enthusiasm.

If they think there's a shortage of talented South Asian actors, it's because they're not looking hard enough. There's quite a few.

The play has a fairly large ensemble, and I didn't notice any weak links. Firdous Bamji is excellent as Flora's painter/love interest, and Bhavesh Patel is equally good as his son in the 1980s section of the plot. Neal Huff does well as the academic writing Flora's biography. The wonderful Ajay Naidu is featured in a role far too small for his considerable talents.
