| Dreadful, perfectly dreadful! 7 Oliviers .... really???!!! Uninteresting characters, tiresome plot, stultifyingly dull dialogue, cheap set (black walls, black floor, lots of lights spinning and flashing in place of furniture). It was SRO until intermission, when MY seat happily became vacant. Third awful Broadway production in a row that I've had the misfortune to see (and pay for) this season ... YCTIWY, IOAP and now CIOTDITNT. GAWD! These days I find myself looking to Off-Broadway to restore one's faith. The productions of "Strictly Dishonorable" and "What Was Lost" were sublime. I imagine the transfer of "Disgraced" will be effective, but I have grave doubts about the other upcoming highly-touted shows/stars. Apologies in advance for the rant, but REALLY ...! | |

| Saw it tonight. All I could think (because I had read your post before) was "adjust your meds." this is a great production. I'll post more of my thoughts later but really, everyone is entitled to their opinion. So OK, you hated it. Me: brilliant. | |

| Not sure if you're new here or not, but I find your tone odious and overbearing. It's nothing to do with your opinion: it's a free message board. And sure, you are free to express your opinions as high-handedly and obnoxiously as you want. But I have the right to feel my stomach churn at the glee with which you bloviate. I mean.....REALLY! | |

| I'm sorry I came across as odious and overbearing. I usually do not post negative opinions because I know how hard everybody works in the theater and who am I to judge anyway? I do LOVE theater - it's why I moved to New York - but after three unfortunate experiences in a row, perhaps I overreacted. I wish I had had a better time at these shows and could have joined in with the majority rave opinions. I'm glad so many people are enjoying these plays. And in the end, I guess, it IS only a play, so .... again, my apologies. | |

| Although I certainly didn't need a personal apology I appreciate you conceding your tone may have come off as harsh. (As did mine.) I think we all love theatre here- even Ben Brantley and Michael Riedel love it, I suspect- and just like in other arenas where Love rules us, we all express it a little differently. Thanks so much for this and for making my day. And sorry if I had the opposite effect on you :). | |

| Wow. I must have seen a different show last night. Attended with my wife and 22 yo son. Unanimous feeling was that it was one of the most engaging evenings we had spent in the theater in a very long time. None of us had read the book or had the opportunity to see the London production. This is pure theater magic and so well written. The night flew by. BTW, we hung around after the curtain call last night, but nothing happened. | |

| Wonderful play about Laurette Taylor & Tennessee Williams preparing for the opening of Glass Menagerie. A real love letter to theater and the people who create it. Played Aug 28-Sep 6 at the Dorothy Strelsin Theatre. I hadn't heard anything about the play, but the idea sounded interesting, so I took a chance and it was one of those unexpectedly thrilling nights in the theater I imagine we all (on this board) live for. It made Tennessee come alive in a way I had never imagined him before. And Pennylynn White as Laurette - a great actress portraying another great actress! | |

| I love the next yarn about Laurette Taylor as much as anyone, but let's try and acknowledge it's not 1945 anymore and get with the 2014 program! And can I add that I love Preston Sturges as much as THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHTIME? MOMC, PBS, ST and HTCH are some of my favourite movies. | |

| I am seeing this for the third time tonight (once at the Apollo, once on NT Live. It is a great piece of theatre and the second act contains a magnificent use of stagecraft. I have come out of the theatre so many times and felt cheated, either by the writing or the production. This is not the case with Curious. It works on so many levels. Be sure and remain after the curtain calls. | |

| The post-curtain call math problem is in the printed text. It's possible that they haven't had the chance to tech it yet, and that's why it hasn't been shown. | |

| cheap set (black walls, black floor, lots of lights spinning and flashing in place of furniture) I have never subscribed to the theory that you need to see elaborate sets on a stage in order to "get your money's worth." It's a really superficial way of looking at theatre. The only requirement of a set is that it serves the needs of the play, which the minimalist and rather innovative -- but assuredly not cheap! -- Curious Incident staging does in spades. | |

| I should not have used "cheap" to describe the set (this is Broadway so we know THAT'S not true!). I should have said "minimalist" and left it at that. I agree that a set's only requirement is to serve the needs of the play. Furthermore, so often when I watch over-elaborate sets revolving and so on, I wish they had simply used a table and chair instead. So I wasn't implying that I wanted to "get my money's worth" by having an intricately detailed set with lots of Louis XV furniture to look at. For if you have interesting characters, a fascinating plot and great dialogue (or pauses if it's Pinter), there doesn't have to be a set at all to create a completely satisfying theatrical experience. | |

| I'm glad someone probably got to enjoy the second act from your vacant seat. De gustibus non est disputandum and all that, but I loved the NT filmed version and can't wait to see it live. Love the novel--and I think they did a creative and intelligent job in finding stage analogues for some of the book's narrative strategies. To say Christopher and his parents are uninteresting seems more a reflection on the audience member to me. REALLY...! (I assume that is followed with a well-rehearsed toss of the head, with mane carefully coiffured to drop in a studied, if stultifyingly dull way. Why can't we have plays with real quality, like "Dear Ruth" and "Mary, Mary," anymore! | |

| Unfortunately, you lose all credibility when you suggest that the set for "Curious Incident" is cheap and imply that this is because they don't wish to spend money on furniture. What? Their set is one of the better immersive environments that I've seen, the multi-media quite sophisticated, and the set does some things in the second act that belie any thought that it might be flimsy and/or cheap. Seriously. | |

| I loved the book. The play...not so much. I enjoyed the first act, but the second act was too long. Too much time and effects were spent on the sensory overload that Christopher experiences on his journey to London. We get the point. Let's move on. There were some interesting bits of staging, but I didn't understand the point of having all the actors on the stage for much of the play. It really felt like it was to give them something to do rather than to add to the story telling. The acting was very good, especially that of Alex Sharp, who plays Christopher, but the accents for some of the actors in the smaller roles seemed to come and go. The staging seemed too big and overdone for the story. There were too many special effects for my liking. I'd suggest reading the book and skipping the play. | |

| I read the book and found it very interesting (although not great lit) and have recommended it to a few -- some liked it, others not. The books linear plot (structured by the character) is easily recalled and so, last night, when I saw the play I was uninvolved. The lady sitting next to me hadn't read the book and liked the play a lot, while her husband had also read the book and shared my lack of enthusiasm. I didn't hate this production but didn't enjoy it. I think, like Mathilda, many will wonder why it's so popular. | |
