Not many box office draws in the cast. I see small ticket sales.

I never really got why that play was so acclaimed.

Me neither--and I say that as someone who did enjoy "Uncommon Women" and "The Sisters Rosenzweig." And I was not greatly impressed with Moss in "Speed-the-Plow" (granted, it's a pretty thankless role in a lot of ways)--for me, she didn't project (not in the sense of too little volume, but too little sending forth of character into the imagined world of the play). I find her voice rather monotone in quality--I can't imagine anchoring that play around so mousy an actress. She's fine as Peggy on the small screen, and her style fits that character's passive-aggressive funk, but Heidi needs to have more of something--Joan Allen was at least an actress equal to the role.

The Sisters Rosenzweig was one of those plays that seemed about to end two or three times before it finally did, but perhaps that was because I saw a replacement cast (although they seemed excellent). It was entertaining, but I was so ready for it to be over. Still, it was better than The Heidi Chronicles. Admittedly, I also saw that one with a replacement cast.

After seeing it, I talked with a friend who'd seen the original cast. And everything that I found problematic about it but that I thought perhaps had worked better with the original cast, he said was also problematic with the original cast.

I remember liking the early stuff more.

I think her best is Uncommon Women, and I only saw a showcase in the 1990s--as well as the PBS version.

I am finally reading and really enjoying Wasserstein's bio by Julie Salamon.

Sadly I found the biography about Wendy Wasserstein more interesting than any of her plays.

"I never really got why that play was so acclaimed."

Me, too. Give me "The Sisters Rosenzweig" any day.

... to see the previously mooted Elisabeth Moss/Keira Knightly Children's Hour instead.

I'd rather see that, too, and that's a role for which Moss seems more right.
