Medea on ntlive

Posted by: dramedy 01:09 pm EDT 09/12/14

I've seen Medea twice, but I went with a coworker and we have to sit though the interviews where they give the ending away. I know it's a 2500 year old play, but my friend had never seen the play.

Oh well. Excellent production and I got that goosebumps/chill down the spine at the end, which is rare. I liked the modernism adaptation. Definitely enjoyed this screening and I was going to skip it since I've seen the play twice before.

A friend of mine was in a similar situation: she went to see the Globe broadcast of Henry IV, Part 2, having never seen the play before... and they talked about Hal spurning Falstaff in the pre-show interviews.

Seeing the Medea broadcast in a few weeks. I'd watch Helen McCrory read the phone book.

Programs do it all the time. I remember reading an article in the program for "The Wild Duck" at the intermission, and it just casually mentioned ... y'know.

I was torn between my jaw dropping (because, at least at the intermission, I was totally not expecting that) and being so amazingly angry that they deprived me of what would probably have been a pretty stunning theatrical moment.

EVERYONE is new to EVERY play at some point. I wish they'd be aware of this.
