Sir Donald Sinden -- RIP

Posted by: TKTSVET 01:20 pm EDT 09/12/14

After a long, long career, Sir Donald Sinden passed away at 90. I had the pleasure of seeing him on stage in London Assurance many years ago. I can only imagine his Malvolio in Twelfth Night opposite Judy Dench as Viola! Has anyone seen the British TV series Two's Company in which he played Elaine Stritch's English butler?

One of the best meetings of old fashioned British and American comedy technique. And to pass so close together in time? The gods were holding a comedy masterclass and needed a "that's how it's done"

Donald Sinden, Frances de la Tour, Ronald Pickup and HARRY ANDREWS!
They don't make em - or cast em - much like that anymore!

I first met Sir Donald when he was playing the English butler. I remember it was at Rules Restaurant where a friend introduced him to me. He was a charming and I love his voice. I saw him in several productions in the West End also once up in Strafford Upon Avon.

I rented it from Netflix. In the grand tradition of Jeeves and Wooster, he was delightful as the dry-witted butler miles ahead of his employer. Would love to have seen him on stage.

I had the pleasure of seeing him in London Assurance here at the Palace. Also saw several episodes of Two's Company.
