Book of Mormon was going to open off-Broadway, but that was thwarted by commercial producers? I have no memory of this.

I could have sworn it was originally slated as part of a non-profit season (I want to say Playwrights Horizons), but the decision was made to open cold on Broadway instead. But now I can't find any evidence of this so I retract my statement until I do.
