Programs do it all the time. I remember reading an article in the program for "The Wild Duck" at the intermission, and it just casually mentioned ... y'know.

I was torn between my jaw dropping (because, at least at the intermission, I was totally not expecting that) and being so amazingly angry that they deprived me of what would probably have been a pretty stunning theatrical moment.

EVERYONE is new to EVERY play at some point. I wish they'd be aware of this.
