| The author treats Streisand with respect, humor, and just enough skepticism to prove he's not a pushover. He gets her to talk about current art, fillers (has she ever commented on this before?) and even breaks what is, for me at least, a little news when he mentions that she is making notes for a memoir. He also wittily alludes to several things -- tastes like butter, her habit, noted in "Buyer and Cellar," of seeing herself in everything, and ,at the end, "Mommie Dearest" -- without actually mentioning them. This is something quite beyond the everyday hacks who slave away at Entertainment Weekly or TMZ. The "Funny Girl" slip up is almost amusing in this context, and no big deal. I've come to look for Bernstein's byline in the Times. And, when you check his resume, you can see he worked his way up to the position. A bit different than Chelsea Clinton opening the door at NBC and announcing, "I'm here." | |

| While I might not be the biggest Streisand superfan in the world, I love a great deal of her work. And while I understand that she's a beloved cultural figure for many millions of fans, I fail to see what is so odious about the article. The minor inaccuracies on dates and attributions are dismaying, yes, but I thought the article itself was a great peek into Streisand's life in 2014 and I think she came across as thoughtful and charming. You Streisand stans are a bit much. | |

| this is actually pretty mild vitriol compared to what sometimes comes out around here at the mention of her name. i've never understood it but i'm kinda glad she can still elicit that kind of response. if you think this is bad you might want to prepare yourself for what's to come if she makes GYPSY. | |

| Fanboys are a bit nutty - there's no doubt about it - but I'm just puzzled by these particular reactions. I really enjoyed the read and thought that Streisand came off as surprisingly down to earth - not to mention smart, passionate and charming. If you read the comments below, you'd think it was some kind of character assassination in the Times. | |

| What bugs me most about this article is the snarky oh-so-trying-to-be-casual air of disrespect. Whatever your response to Streisand's current work, her fifty year long career certainly deserves more respect than this little putz gives her. I find his tone condescending, trivializing and mean. He didn't have to blindly puff her up, but a better writer might have challenged her more honestly. Had he done so, she would have easily dispatched him with a flick of a nail. This is a lame drive by, poorly written and unworthy of his subject. The unforgivable "People" reference negates everything else. It's called Wikipedia dude. Try it out. | |

| "She’s also grown fond of landscaping.." Minor point, but she's always been interested in landscaping, sometimes to the annoyance of her neighbors in Malibu. | |

| Well, anybody who says, IN PRINT, that "People" was "written for the movie 'Funny Girl ' " has ZERO credibility. And members of this board don't get paid a DIME for knowing things like that !!! | |

| No doubt the Times will admit an "editing error." But this is so wrong that it certainly calls into question the writer's qualifications. Does anyone know his history at the Times and elsewhere? | |

| Thank you. Well, he certainly has an extensive history at the Times, albeit as a Styles writer--which shouldn't be a negative. I just hope--if he's to have a long career with the Times--that this Streisand piece is the exception, not the rule, to his knowledge. As a side note, I'm surprised that the Times, which at least used to be obsessed with someone's age, doesn't cite his. | |
