CATO to protest THE DEATH OF KLINGHOFFER @ Met Opera

Posted by: Alcindoro 02:02 pm EDT 09/13/14

How many of the protesters, I wonder, have actually seen, heard, or even just read the libretto in complete form? The night of the protest is actually a performance of LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, where the plot hinges on a lead character, treated not as a caricatured villain but a fully-drawn human, and his plan to deflower a young bride before her wedding night. And yet, to my knowledge, there has never been any significant feminist protest of Mozart's opera.
