SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS at MTG last night

Posted by: showtunetrivia 01:37 pm EDT 09/15/14

Many thanks to Musical Theatre Guild for giving us the opportunity to leave Chatsworth (107*) for slightly cooler Santa Monica to see their concert production of SWEET SMELL OF SUCCESS. It's my favorite Hamlisch score. Kudos to director Calvin Remsberg, for keeping things moving briskly, and to leads John Sloman and Zachary Ford. Special high five to whoever handled props, for actually having photos of Astaire and Bogie in the box for the song, "For Susan." That's admirable attention to detail in a show that has literally four days to come together.

My one big complaint--because it took this baseball fan right out of the moment--was when Sidney said, "If the Mets keep hitting the apple, they'll cop the pennant."

No, sorry. The line refers to the Dodgers. It's 1952. There are no Mets.

In MTG productions, the actors carry scripts. Who changed the line and why???

Next up for MTG, TRIUMPH OF LOVE on November 16.
