Sadly, yeast nation isn't any more interesting than watching bread rise

Posted by: dramedy 07:31 pm EDT 10/03/14

It was first preview, but 2.5 hours long with most songs sounding similar. There was some humor throughout, but not nearly the level of urinetown. Ray of light did Triassic parq earlier this year and it is surprising the similarities with the plot although this doesn't have the movie to poke fun of. A group of asexual beings that are threatened by a mutation of the species. I can see why this show never went much farther in ny than the fringe festival although I think this might be more developed, which probably just means longer. The cast does it's best with the material, although they have scream over an over amplified offstage band. I just wish they spent their energy on a better show.

Talked to the composer Mark Hollmann tonight. It is still a work in progress. Press night tonight but I will wait and give my opinion of the musical on regional review.

Ray of Light is a fantastic company and I always eagerly look forward to their shows, and their unique take on musicals. Until this season. Their two shows held zero interest for me. I hope next season they offer some more typical productions with the ROL spin. I wait with baited breath.

Not a great musical, but it was a good choice. But they should have picked a different show as the second show of season.
