Arts Town Hall SF: October 20, 2014

Posted by: PatrickHSF 12:25 pm EDT 10/16/14

Arts Town Hall SF will be a good opportunity to hear from SF Supervisor incumbents and candidates about their views and priorities for arts and culture in San Francisco. I will be attending.

From the Website:
Arts Town Hall SF will take place on October 20 from 6 pm to 8 pm, in the theater at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 700 Howard Street.

Over 4 Million people participate in the events, programs, and services provided by San Francisco’s arts organizations each year. More than 5,000 Bay Area residents work at our arts organizations every day. These organizations offer high quality educational programming, serving almost 700,000 young people every year.

The Arts Town Hall grew out of a collaboration between Arts Forum SF and the San Francisco Arts Alliance and has continued to build upon efforts by both groups to educate elected and campaigning policymakers about the role and value of the arts in our City. With help and leadership from the Arts Commission and Grants for the Arts, Arts Forum SF and the San Francisco Arts Alliance joined forces to create a signature event that would bring the arts community together in dialogue with people running for office.

Since 2009, there have been 3 Arts Town Halls, each building upon the success of the year’s prior. In 2012, over 500 members of the arts community, representing organizations that range vastly in size, location, audience and medium participated in the forum which focused on the highly contested 2012 Supervisorial races. The goal of this event continues to be to educate and build relationships with our policymakers that result in a strong arts vision for San Francisco and strong and inclusive cultural policy. Equally as important, the event strives to build a broad coalition of arts community members and supporters that can come together in force and can impact policy. The members of the San Francisco Arts Alliance have supported this effort since its inception.

We hope you will join us for this this unique opportunity to engage candidates for San Francisco Supervisor on issues important to our community—support for the arts and artists as well as the city’s strategies for partnering with individuals and organizations large and small to serve neighborhoods and communities equitably and effectively. We are excited to announce that Marcus Shelby, accomplished teacher, composer, arranger, and bassist, has agreed to open up the program and NPR Arts Desk Correspondent Laura Sydell will act as our moderator for the evening.

The event will be held on October 20 from 6 pm to 8 pm, in the theater at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 700 Howard Street.
