Kudos to Green Valley Theatre Company in Sacramento

Posted by: LynnO 01:51 pm EDT 11/01/14

... for doing an amazing and innovative production of ROCKY HORROR SHOW! Green Valley Theatre Company has done ROCKY HORROR every October around Halloween for the past 7 years or so, and for the past four, they've made it more interesting by having a "theme." So instead of the "classic"-looking production, the show takes on a new visual persona. This year's theme was "circus freak show," and WOW, did it work well with this show! The narrator was/were Siamese twins, and the ensemble was a colorful cast of circus characters. Riff Raff is blind in this production, which adds all kinds of physical fun! The cast is all great, But the star of them all is my favorite local actor Jacob Montoya as Frankenfurter! I'm biased, but I've read other reviews that claim that he is just as good (or better) than Tim Curry. The choreography is well done, and the band absolutely ROCKS, including horns and two violins! This production is so wonderful and creative that casts from OTHER productions of ROCKY HORROR in other cities are coming to Sacramento to see it. I've seen this show several times (with groups of my friends), and the other casts are fun because they add to the backing vocals and add interesting shout-outs. Unfortunately, GVTC's production closes tonight, but it was useless to post earlier anyway because it sells out every year. But I decided that it's notable that this show can be beautifully tweaked with inspired imagination!

All of the people that I've brought to see this production have vowed to come back again to see what GVTC does with ROCKY HORROR next year!
