Ditto.

Why gay? If you think about it, classic comics often had a soft and fluid movement style that was not stereotypically butch. I think of Bob Hope, Jack Benny, and Red Skeleton. I sure there were more.

Moreover, to be political, there have always been swishy straight guys and butch queers in real life.

Ed's gayness isn't on stage; it's inside the commentator.
