The only productions we have are 42nd moon street which does revivals of old musicals with only a piano. More recently, I have seen a show or two with an other musician playing a few instruments. Still, the overall sound for a musical sucks in my opinion.

I did see allegro and really enjoyed it. I have never seen a full production, but the Greek chorus aspect is probably annoying to me no matter what I see. I played the violin in junior high and high school. So I'm amazed at the talent on stage at classic theate company where the musicians know the whole score without sheet music and play several instruments. Plus, I HATE over amplified shows. So the Doyle productions are a relief to me to hear a mix of sound without reaching for earplugs. I enjoy the truncated musical sound since I'll never see a full blown version.

As for allegro, the 90 minute version told the story well without really bogging down. I can see why this show is rarely produced because the first 20 minutes of growing up is just boring exposition. I felt the songs were well song with the cast and roving orchestra. Wil this go down as a great musical experience, no, it was a pleasant evening of a show that I have not seen in 30 plus years of theater attending and will never see again.
