Many powerhouse performances, and in the ensemble scenes you can see how each character is trying desperately to track of all the others so as not lose what little control they have over the unfolding situation. The only imperfections for me were some technical issues with Close and Plimpton. Close seemed oddly restrained compared to her castmates, even after you take into account the character's commitment to repression. In comparison, her several monologues lacked the symphonic sweep of Lithgow, Balaban, and Higgins. (It's possible that this was a film-acting vs stage-acting issue.) Plimpton was presenting as closer to fifty than the stated thirty-six. This is odd, as the actress is only forty-two, and I'm hard put to explain it; but really she was no livelier either in movement or facial expression than the others, and they're all ten or twenty years her senior. I don't mean she was rigid (like Broderick, for example) just a bit stiff. Also I felt her makeup was too heavy, which is probably wrong but might be a clue.
