1. How does the Tony committee know how voters felt or why they chose not to vote? Did they canvass or poll them?

2. Did the Tonys consult with any sound designers before they ruled? If the Tony committee thought the voters lacked expertise on the topic, did the Tonys consider holding a seminar on sound design to help educate them?

3. If the only Tony voters who voted for sound design felt they could judge it, doesn't that count for something?

4. Is sound design really a more ''technical skill'' than lighting design? Aren't sound designers artists? In fact, aren't acting, singing, directing and dancing, etc., both technical AND theatrical skills?

Apparently, the Tonys' sense of what matters is reflected in their new and expanded nominating committee. Out of 50 members, there are artistic directors galore. Many arts executives. Plus, the heads of various arts schools.

But only 2 lighting designers, 1 costume designer, 1 scenic designer and ... no sound designers.
