sorry, I don't buy it. In 99% of cases, where a scene "needs" certain sound qualities, the SD is simply executing a note. The comparison to what an LD does is quickly going to lead you to a place you don't want to be. Bear in mind, the idea of redefining the category leaves in place an award for the creative input of an SD, but eliminates what is happening now, which is that peopple are voting based on their perception of the sound quality, i.e. whether they could hear the singers and instruments in a musical. You are never going to convince me that is an artistic function.
