1. I am certain the committee canvassed the nom comm, which is the threshold issue.

2, The idea of a seminar misapprehends the issue, is naive and just silly in any event. The suggestion speaks for itself.

3. The problem is, that's not what happens. Anyone can vote, not just anyone who is objectively capable of judging. But in any event, that's not the issue. Is it creative or just techinical? We could also give an award for dressers, hair and makeup people, set constructors, etc. but we don't.

4. LD inherently has an artistic component; SD does not. That's the problem.

5. Are you seriously suggesting that the nom comm should be more than 10% designers? Really? And how would this change the situation since the nom comm does not function as a deliberative body?

I think there are a host of design departments that ought to be included in the awards ahead of SD-projection design being first and foremost. And why the SD but not the MD? It goes on and on. But I also think the SD award can be redefined to make it mean something, and that that is what is going to fall out from all this.
