I personally find entrance applause annoying, and I would think a lot of actors find it even more so. Applause after a scene doesn't bother me a bit, and I think this is an example of Cote over-zealously straining to seem hip and having it backfire. Between movement applause became verboten at the time of the rise of the maestro persona, when these "stars" chafed at the interruption of their control. Orpheus, a conductor-less orchestra, has at times encouraged inter-movement applause.
