I really do think that one of the reasons some people get turned off to attending theatre, classical concerts, etc, is not so much the style of the material, but the perception that they'll have to sit there, stiff as a board and "behave," instead of being able to act like a person.

And on the other hand, I do indeed think that there are "pompous/pretentious" theatre and concertgoers who seem to go only so they can disapprove of others' behavior. It's a shame they they go for that reason instead of to ENJOY the event.
