I agree, although like most other things, there is obviously a point at which enjoyment crosses the line and starts to interfere with the (reasonable) enjoyment of others.

The stiff as a board comment revives a thought I have ever so often when I see bus loads of school kids heading to a Broadway show, each boy corseted in a neck tie. Now there is nothing on earth as uncomfortable looking as an 8th grader in a neck tie. Yet what these schools are doing is unnecessarily making the experience of going to the theatre an unpleasant one (is this why males end up liking theatre less than females?)-and not even for a reason that makes sense, since most of the rest of us are not going to be wearing one. To me, Cote here is making up rules in a similar vein.

Oh well.
