While I wouldn't necessarily say that Cote only goes to the theatre to disapprove of others' behavior, obviously (since I started this subthread) I agree that this kind of excessive rule-making about what constitutes acceptable behavior at the theatre may turn people off from even going.

There is a line between behavior that really can negatively affect the ability of other audience members to enjoy the show and behavior that you may not like but isn't really harming anyone's experience of the show.

This "hushed intimate drama" and "chamber drama" stuff that Cote brings up so that he can suggest rules for appropriate behavior (what not to do) at that kind of play is really the last thing that anyone needs to read. As suggested elsewhere, if the producers and Jackman were that concerned about audience behavior they wouldn't have booked the show into a Broadway theatre. And using a term like starfucker for people who simply applaud a famous actor on his entrance seems just a tiny bit excessive. Is everyone who's ever applauded an actor's entrance a starfucker? If so, then what term would he use for the folks at the last performance of the LuPone Gypsy?
