"Maybe you think the rule for theatergoing is to slap your nose-pickers together after each song (for a musical) or scene (for a play)." Is he saying we shouldn't clap at the end of a number in a musical? Because a silent audience at the end of musical numbers would be very strange at most musicals. (Obviously, some are constructed or directed so that applause would not be desired, but that's not true for most musicals.)
