During the post-show discussion, director Stafford Arima talked about how Matthew Bauman, who played one of the male lead's four friends, called in sick that morning and was in the hospital. A decision was made to divide his part among the other three actors. His lines had to be allocated and the harmonies and staging changed somewhat one hour before the show. Everything went seamlessly. There was an actress at the discussion who had the female lead in backers auditions when the show was supposed to go to Broadway in 1954. She said she had a crush on the 23-year-old Sondheim who she thought was so modest and nice. Some of the actors in this production mentioned that he came to a rehearsal (and to one of the performances)and was clarifying things and tweaked at least one of the lyrics.
