Performance Times: Wed. - Sat. @ 800 PM Matinees: Saturdays 11/15, 11/22 and 11/29 @ 300 pm Sunday, November 30 @ 300 pm Box Office: www.TheRhino.org or (800) 838-3006 TIX: $15 - $20 (All previews are “pay what you wish at the door.”) The famous naval battle becomes a musical-comedy. Finally! Join Nim, Fletch, Spru, Yammy and Naggy as they slug it out in the Central Pacific. It's the Second World War like you've never seen it before! The Battle of Midway was the turning point of the Pacific War. But it’s been made into a couple of movies, written up in dozens of histories, and even crept its way (nearly) into some musicals and straight plays. Where do we go from here? Utilizing camp, drag, gender fuck and a lot of expository writing, Theatre Rhino attempts to revolutionize this story just as the US and Japan revolutionized naval combat. This will be a high concept, low-tech extravaganza. The music is original but the story is borrowed. In this musical retelling the Battle of Midway becomes a battle of wills as childish admirals and glory seeking pilots chase each other about the Pacific Ocean. This farcical pugilalia shows up warfare for all its vanity and gory-glory seeking.Greenhorns will come to learn more about history. Aficionados will come to nitpick facts and roll their eyes at the grotesque liberties taken, liberties that are that much more obnoxious because they are imbedded in so much truth. They therefore can only be seen as corrupting and dangerous to the consumer. Beware. THE BATTLE OF MIDWAY! will be performed between Halloween and Thanksgiving – thus it will be irreverent but grateful.

Aurora Theatre Company continues its 23rd season with the West Coast Premiere of Fraser Grace’s provocative BREAKFAST WITH MUGABE. First produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2005, this recent off Broadway hit was inspired by newspaper reports that Robert Mugabe, the president of Zimbabwe, severely depressed and convinced he was haunted by the ghost of a dead comrade, sought treatment from a white psychiatrist. Set against the aftermath of colonialism and revolution, BREAKFAST WITH MUGABE delves into the mind of one of the world’s most vilified leaders. Jon Tracy, who directed Aurora’s productions of Gidion’s Knot and The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, returns to helm BREAKFAST WITH MUGABE, L. Peter Callender, who previously starred in Aurora’s productions of The Soldier’s Tale and Permanent Collection, returns to the company to play the title role of Robert Mugabe. The Train Driver by Athol Fugard The Train Driver is a heart-wrenching, true story about how a white train driver, Roelf, struggles to cope after tragically killing a black woman, who stepped in front of his oncoming train with a child strapped to her back. What compels a mother to commit such a horrific act? Tortured by his inexplicable guilt and their gruesome images, Roelf travels to the township’s “potter’s field” – their final resting place. There he encounters the black gravedigger, Simon, whose job is to bury the “nameless” and asks where the woman and child are buried. Simon pretends not to remember and Roelf refuses to leave until Simon tells him. Thus begins an uneasy relationship between the two men. In this desolate place, does Simon offer Roelf solace and will Roelf find redemption? Presented by: Off Broadway West Theatre Company, P.O. Box 470005, San Francisco, CA 94147 Director: Richard D. BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND November 13-23Marines’ Memorial Theatre PUPPET UP! UNCENSORED – WestBeth Entertainment & SF Sketchfest present Henson Alternative’s PUPPET UP! – UNCENSORED, a night of hilarious uncensored mayhem featuring over 60 original Henson puppets brought to life by a cast of six world-class puppeteers of The Jim Henson Company in a night of off the cuff comedy. SHN is proud to be the official ticketing partner for Henson Alternative’s PUPPET UP! – UNCENSORED.Created by award-winning director, producer, and writer Brian Henson and actor, director, and improvisational guru Patrick Bristow (Ellen, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Whose Line Is It Anyway?), PUPPET UP! – UNCENSORED, formerly known as “Stuffed and Unstrung,” will play a limited 10 performance engagement November -23 at the Marines’ Memorial Theatre. PUPPET UP! – UNCENSORED is never the same show twice due to its improvisational nature, showcasing the wit, technique, and that trademark Henson dryness and sly anarchy. Expert puppeteers create twisted scenes and songs on the fly, as suggestions from the audience prompt the improvised story lines unfolding on stage. Unpredictable and irreverent, the outrageous and uninhibited PUPPET UP! – UNCENSORED is a wild romp in which the skilled art of puppetry and spontaneous comedy collide as the fearless puppeteers set loose live onstage to explore the art of improvisational comedy. After just the first few moments of watching and interacting with the puppets of PUPPET UP! – UNCENSORED, you’ll realize this is no ordinary puppet show. The production delivers two-shows-in-one of improvised Henson puppetry. The hilarious puppet action is projected live on large screens flanking the stage, while the puppeteers race around below displaying their skills in full view of the audience. With live musical accompaniment and Patrick Bristow as host, this ‘psychotic puppet party’ also features a few recreations of classic pieces originally created by Jim Henson, Jane Henson, and Frank Oz that haven’t been seen by live audiences in decades. Ticket Services at 888-746-1799. Tickets range from $40-$50. Prices are subject to change.

THE IMMIGRANT The Tabard Theatre Company at Theatre on San Pedro Square continues its 2014-2015 season themed “It’s All About Perspective!” with Mark Harelik’s popular play, THE IMMIGRANT, November 7 through 22. Inspired by his grandmother’s photo album and subtitled "A Hamilton County Album,” THE IMMIGRANT is the charming and touching true story of Mark Harelik’s Russian grandparents, two Russian Jews who immigrated to the small Texas town of Hamilton in 1909. Over decades, as depicted in the play, their lives become deeply woven into the fabric of this Southern Baptist community as they journey through the real-life humor and conflicts that arise when cultures clash on the road to understanding. Harelik’s grandfather grew to become a pillar of the community and business leader. This tribute to the tenacity, persistence, and commitment of the immigrant life underscores the bold, proud, and resilient fabric of all those who came to America for a new life. Playwright Mark Harelik, who was born in Hamilton, Texas, has many stage, TV, and film credits, including co-writing the screenplay for the award-nominated Lost THE IMMIGRANT will run through 22, at the intimate Theatre on San Pedro Square, 29 North San Pedro Street, in downtown San Jose.
