That attempt to produce Saturday Night was written about in the Times on May 20, 1958, in a short article titled "Timmy Everett's Plans." It mentioned that Evans Evans, who was performing with him at the time in The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, was also being sought for it.

The article said it was one of three offers he was considering. The others were Joseph Stein's dramatization of Carl Reiner's novel Enter Laughing, which Merrick was then supposed to produce, and the film version of Home From the Hills.

Interesting that it would be almost five years before Enter Laughing would finally open on Broadway, and it would be produced by Morton Gottlieb when it did.
