Like it or not, a joyful song from a man about how the woman he is interested in likes musicals would've seemed a little weird. Demographically speaking, women are usually more interested in musicals than men. I always assumed they changed it because they wanted Chuck to have "wow, we have something in common" moment, and perhaps also because singing a song about going to a musical in a musical might've been too "meta" (not that anyone would've used that term in 1968).
