Probably for several reasons, including that having a song about going to see a specific musical would have dated the show, possibly even during its own original run. (Of course, the show did date pretty quickly, but they perhaps didn't realize how quickly it was going to date.)

The movie will forever be set while THe Music Man was running. They probably hoped that Promises, Promises would still be running after Hello, Dolly! closed.

But, yes, probably the zeitgeist, too.
