It's a few seconds and you've already bashed the choreography, judged Allison's voice, and said that Walken is anti-musical comedy when in fact, he was in The Sound of Music on Broadway and is a very funny actor. It looks fun to me.

... and some of us also said nice things, along with the criticisms.

I'm glad it looks fun to you. It looks fun to me. I just think the dancing looks generic, which is in line with Ashford's work.

And I like Walken. He's a unique gem.

I don't think that Walken was was in The Sound of Music on Broadway. Are you perhaps thinking of Jon Voight, who was a replacement Rolf?

Christopher Walken did do musicals, of course, primarily as a dancer and in roles that had a major dance component.

You are right. "Ronnie Walken" was in HIGH SPIRITS though so he has experience in musical comedy.

I saw HIGH SPIRITS but don't remember Walken in it(though he is prominent in my souvenir booklet). I do remember him in WEST SIDE STORY in stock though. And his musical talents are amply on display in PENNIES FROM HEAVEN.

So, I'm just curious how The Sound Of Music got into this. Were you possibly thinking of Christopher Plummer from the film? Or Christian Borle from last year's telecast? Or did you really think Walken had played in the show on Broadway?

That's why I said he had done musicals — because of his appearances in High Spirits and other musicals.

It at least looks vastly better than last year's outing. Hopefully they've worked out the sound issues, and the fact that the sets are allowed to be more theatrical helps it to look more like a musical and less like "Days of Our Lives".

There's still the banal choreography... is this Rob Ashford again? What I've seen of his work, it feels like he has no attention to character or story in his choreography; it all seems empty movement to me.

I sort of feel like that was the opposite of hearing Allison Williams sing... it was like hearing Allison William's voice buried inside an ensemble + audio FX. I'm not reassured....

Walken's Hook is the Anti-Ritchard. And from this clip, anti-musical comedy.

Walken always seemed an odd (and poor) choice for Hook, and this promo does not inspire confidence. Of course, you can't judge an entire performance from a five-second clip, but still, I'd say I'm even more skeptical than I was.

Williams has what sounds like a pleasant voice, though with more of pop timbre than musical theatre. I'm holding out hope for her.

But, is that Chris Walken, or someone doing a Chris Walken impression?
