I saw it over the weekend. The subtitle is "Oedipus Variations," and that's basically what it is, I guess -- the Oedipus story told from different angles with different, analogous characters, in (I think) at least two different time periods.

I seemed to grasp some of the play in terms of imagery (for instance, cars play a big role, and one of the characters is named Otto). Beyond that, though, I frequently had very little idea what was going on -- I tend not to be good at following multiple plot strands where the same actors play different characters.

In any case, because I like Shepard's work generally and enjoyed his last couple of shows (Heartless and especially Ages of the Moon, which also featured Stephen Rea), I'm going to give A Particle of Dread another try in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping to emerge a bit less puzzled than I did this weekend.
