well look to the people who have some authority on how to the dress for the theater. any etiquette book or one of those "how to dress" books should clarify what's appropriate.

i don't see any conflict in behaving in the theater and enjoying the theater and being appropriately dressed. i'd enjoy it less if i felt like i wasn't.

i guess we have different definitions of what's "ridiculous."
