Kudos to Jackman, the Hugh-manitarian

Posted by: WaymanWong 12:49 am EST 11/20/14

After last night's bows at ''The River,'' Hugh Jackman was willing to give the shirt off his back ... for a great charity: Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. He auctioned off the T-shirt he wore in the show for a top bid of $5,000 and sold another one to the runner-up bidder of $4,000. These winners also were offered a backstage meet-and-greet with the cast, and a chance to take photos. (You also could get the backstage visit itself for $2,000 a pop.)

As for ''The River,'' I bought Jackman hook, link and sinker, but it wasn't easy to make heads or tails of the play.

That was the one and only bid for Jackman's T-shirt after tonight's performance. After last night's $7,000 bidder, THE RIVER sure is flowing in BC/EFA's direction.

When he did BACK ON BROADWAY, he even continued the post-show auctions well after the official collection cessation date. Bet he'll do the same this time around, too.

Does he remove his t-shirt right there on stage or is the transaction completed backstage?

The prior evening, the first night of fundraising at THE RIVER, Hugh's two shirts went for $7,500 apiece. He acknowledged BC/EFA exec Jack Viertel, who was standing in the aisle. Looks like it's going to be another standout effort from HJ.
