flip flops and shorts are not the only alternative to not wearing a tie. Why do you find it necessary to create that choice to support your antiquated position? Further, what was appropriate when you were growing up is not the same as what is appropriate some number of years later. Perhaps when you were growing up, those of your ilk would have been offended that you had the temerity to show up at the theatre not wearing spats. Finally, there is really nothing to be gained from discussing this with you, since you are a part of the problem I described, not the solution. Many teachers in this country are responsible for many childrens' lack of love of the theatre (and, by the same token, many are responsible for the love of theatre in other kids).
