I love the film score, and most especially the German stage score, which was my driving force to want to see this new version. The inclusion of Sacra Profana as the choir was a brilliant choice. The critical comments made by me and others were primarily focused on the script, not the music, though I don't so much care for a few of the new songs, I.e., the tambourine bit by Esmarelda. The original songs and new ones from Berlin are great on stage.

Oh I know you weren't critical of the film score. I was referring to comments made by others" i.e. the team is "stuck with the songs etc. That sentiment is surprising to hear since the film score/songs were so acclaimed...and rightly so. I agree the script needs work and many of the new songs don't work.
