I think it's silly to predict these things so far out (unless Teachout is signaling he'll be on the jury!) but for what it's worth, Father Comes Home has the advantage of being about the Civil War (of course I'm aware that they've looked past the "preferably dealing with American life" guideline before...)
I honestly don't know what Teachout thinks is "issue-driven" about the play. The Rwandan genocide to come gives it added impact, but it's not really about that event.

I think the issues Teachout is referring to, and admires, is the play's treatment of Christianity. I agree, knowing about the genocide gives that added context, but the play is more about faith and belief than the genocide itself.

Teachout is gratified, and many viewers are surprised, that the play deals straightforwardly and without cynicism with Catholic belief. But I think it's driven by fascination with the story, not by any issue...
