| ... so boo-hoo-hoo he didn't just LOVE that show that you did. He clearly knows his theatre history, gives well-considered opinions, and usually does it with literary flair. Do I always agree with him? No. But I always appreciate how well he words his POV. | |

| does anyone actually "read" posts around here? Murray's review is a rave and Alan is being ironic. | |

| Though as I remarked below about the Allegro review, it's ironic how on Monday night, Murray was (to some) nothing but a grumpy, negative naysayer who has no writing skills. And all of a sudden he's brilliant. ;-) Of course, I think that's only if you liked the show and he didn't, and vice versa. Ultimately, I don't think it has anything to do with Murray at all. ;-) | |

| Thought I like the way some of Murray's reviews are written I found this current one unhelpful and borderline incomprehensible. | |

| No, I didn't, but I did need to clarify my response. It was in agreement with you, Alan and a response to those who cannot deal with a critic issuing a negative review of a show that they liked. Sorry I didn't make that clearer. I guess I should use more emoticons. ;) >:-/ :D | |

| I think there should be an automatic limit on how many emoticons anyone is allowed to use in a single day. The internet should somehow make it impossible for people to post too many of them. | |

| . . . I suspect that Matthew's review of this production is the one that I will agree with most, even though I sometimes do strongly disagree with him on some shows. I certainly agree with most everything he wrote. Also for the record (I've said this before), he is a friend. So maybe I'm a bit prejudiced in his favor. | |

| Well - he certainly nailed what was on stage in Side Show. I wonder why Brantley, who reviewed the original, didnt cover the revival for the Times. | |

| The other reviews starting to surface are already for the most part measured but contradicting the unqualified rave he offered. (See Winer, and from what I saw before they took down the Brantley review, expect something decidedly mixed from the Times) But who cares? His review was articulate, considered, passionate -- to me, brilliantly argued -- and I didn't agree with much of anything he said. Nor did I accept his bristling pan of SIDE SHOW. But I enjoy his reviews, always, they are filled with carefully weighed evaluations of all elements to form an overall appraisal. I just seldom agree with him. I love smart reviews, have since I was a young teenager, and find those that I don't agree with illuminating and educational. I learn more from critics I don't agree with. | |
