The other reviews starting to surface are already for the most part measured but contradicting the unqualified rave he offered. (See Winer, and from what I saw before they took down the Brantley review, expect something decidedly mixed from the Times) But who cares? His review was articulate, considered, passionate -- to me, brilliantly argued -- and I didn't agree with much of anything he said. Nor did I accept his bristling pan of SIDE SHOW. But I enjoy his reviews, always, they are filled with carefully weighed evaluations of all elements to form an overall appraisal. I just seldom agree with him. I love smart reviews, have since I was a young teenager, and find those that I don't agree with illuminating and educational. I learn more from critics I don't agree with.
