I saw the original LA cast with Nathan Lane, Richard Thomas, Roxanne Hart and the hysterical Andrea Martin.

It was overall a good play and production but Martin really made it an event.

From what I've read the original NY production was really a tour de force for Christine Baranski.

I thought John Glover played John in LA. Did Thomas replace him?

I'm confused about this now. I thought I saw Thomas but everything online says it was Glover.......


Oops I just figured it out. Thomas did The Lisbon Triviatta with Lane in LA and so it must have been Glover in Lips.


(sorry, I was just a kid!)

I think Thomas makes so much more sense than Glover for the role in Lips Together.

I was afraid to say this because I thought it might be offensive but here goes:

I remember now as a teen I was very confused by the casting of Lane and Glover. I thought they were eventually going to reveal to their wives that they were gay.

The whole reason not to see this production is having seen the original at MTC. You can't beat Lane and Baranski.

Ditto Lane and Baranski. At the time, I remember how emotionally clear was everyone's fear of the pool water. It was funny, sure, but also on target for the AIDS fear in the culture.

I remember loving it....very funny and moving with great performances. I originally wanted to see it now but decided against it after all the negative views.
