I agree with some of his points. They've gone more for pretty and not depth. This isn't Sunday in the Park. Maybe there could be more, but I think little is known, and it would all be more made up stuff. I like how they present things and leave a good amount to our speculation (because so much really is speculation).

And something I hadn't mentioned is the "handsome street singer (Kyle Harris)" character. He doesn't need to be in the story at all. There's no romance, and he just, as Marks says, hangs around, then he's gone. Nothing against the actor.

Poor Karen Ziemba. The best (and all) he can is "agile"?

The Harris character needs to be there, but the authors haven't established why they need him. They want him for plot purposes in the second act. His character is the only one who believes in Marie's talent. And maybe most importantly, he gets the best song in the show Dancing Still and who would they give that song to if they cut him?

in the book The Painted Girls by Cathy Buchanan

she combined the story of the three girls and 2 boys accused of murder at the time. It is fiction (and the author states there is nothing in fact relating to the two stories), but it gave the girls the love interest.

Here, the musician does rescue her. I really think it is hard to have a love story where one character doesn't sing.

If this show moves forward, they really need to train ballet dancers (that look more like 14) to also sing, like they did for Billy Elliot. That would be impractal for Kennedy Center one month production. The Luker shadowing doesn't work and Marks pointed that out.

Marks doesn't say much about Luker either.

These three reviews, mixed as they are, made me want to see the show.

I don't trust anything Isherwood has to say about musicals.

On new works, especially musicals, Marks is no more reliable than Isherwood. Marks' rave for Glory Days sent that turkey to a quick Broadway flop.
