| I don't buy that. The theater district was mobbed last night, and it was, in fact, NYC's first gridlock alert day of the holiday season. I agree that blizzard conditions often keep people home, or create travel problems. The weather last night was quite pleasant. I don't believe you can blame the weather or the time of year for an empty mezzanine at the Nederlander last night. The show just started, and Danza's no Cooper or Jackman. I will attend tomorrow afternoon, and report back on the attendance, etc. | |

| I thought the movie was fun but the musical a letdown. McClure was very good but Danza could not sing nor dance. I adore all other scores by Brown but disappointed in this one. Also there were parts of the book that I just thought were too silly. I was quite amazed with the very good reviews it received at Paper Mill. | |

| Well, the night I saw it at Paper Mill the audience was loving it. My friend and I looked at each other in amazement. four friends also saw the show there and were equally disappointed. I always thought Danza was suppose to be a good showman. Not when we saw it. But we are in the minority based on the audience responses when we were there. | |

| of course you are right. Aside from everything else, how would one explain the disparity with other shows whose audiences endured the same "cold temps" (by which we mean, to put it in context, temps bottoming out right around the freezing mark-not in single digits or accompanied by snow. | |

| Last night, the lady in front of my very good orch. TDF seat stood for a few seconds and then sat when she noticed that there were few supporters for her enthusiasm. I didn't mind the show, but it wasn't good. I actually thought it was kind of creepy ... starting with the pallor of Tony Danza's face to the strangeness of the meager dance numbers. The music, too, was bland with horrible lyrics. McClure was good, as was Brynn O'Malley. The only treat was Nancy Opel. | |

| True that. Very few people standing during the curtain call. I thought the production was amusing but a mixed bag overall. Nancy Opel steals the show. Rob McClure is fantastic as is David Josefsberg and Brynn O'Malley. Tony Danza, on the other hand, is no singer - and he has so many songs! Oy! I agree his make-up seemed too heavy and was not a flattering shade. Also agree about the dancing - very pedestrian. You can see similar dancing in college productions all across the country. The music was fine. Some of the slower numbers were rather bland, but the brassy numbers fit the mood and setting nicely. JRB was in the house and taking notes. If my budget or time only allowed for one such Broadway excursion, and I was in the mood for a fizzy, musical comedy...I would recommend ON THE TOWN over this show, no question. | |

| I know we are not all crazy about some of his reviews or the way he approaches them. But has be ever been as off as he seems to be here? The only reason this came to NY was because of his review. | |

| as has been rehearsed several times lately, Brantley was not some bizarre outlier on this show, and there were many highly enthusiastic reviews by respected posters here so it seems presumptuous to assume "we" would reach such a consensus. | |

| I well recall many entirely positive responses to the show. The consensus seemed to be: this is an old fashioned musical comedy, in the GUYS AND DOLLS tradition. Brantley's review of course translated readily into NYC consideration, but the critics seemed to have a helluva good time. | |
