Yesterday in the theatre district

Posted by: seeseveryshow 11:54 am EST 11/23/14

a few observations from yesterday in the theatre district..

Café Edison was mobbed between 12 and 1pm. People waiting to be seated, in a line extending from the cash register to the 47th St entrance. Every table and bar stool taken. Bar service not bad. Huge portions and tasty food. Some cameramen were filming couples who were being interviewed about what the restaurant meant to them. I am pretty sure I recognized and overheard Annaleigh Ashford and her husband discussing their courtship.

Post matinee ELEPHANT MAN - the largest stage door crowd I've ever seen - including Jackman's closing night in THE BOY FROM OZ. Looked like 1000 people after many of the exiting MATILDA crowd joined the fan love-in. Shubert Alley was a crush of people all the way back to Junior's.

Post matinee IT'S ONLY A PLAY. After most of the audience exited, the curtain was raised and the entire cast, in costume, was on stage for BCEFA fund-raising photos with folks paying $2000 apiece. Each contributor was graciously welcomed by every cast member, handshakes and hugs. This went on for quite some time. It looked like a lot of fun.

Post matinee A DELICATE BALANCE. John Lithgow signed and then took off in a black car. I wondered where he'd be going during the short interval between shows.
