HONEYMOON IN VEGAS - Sunday Matinee

Posted by: seeseveryshow 11:52 pm EST 11/23/14

It wasn't sold out, but the orchestra was full and the upstairs was about 50%.
Folks were lined up for nearly an hour to get in.

Apparently there's no longer a proper stage door at the Nederlander. The cast, including Mr. Danza, entered the theatre through the lobby, just like the ticket holders. And, I would note, he was a bit late for half hour today.

I never saw the film or the version at the Paper Mill. It's a harmless, cute story and makes for a fun show. No great art, no great anything, no goose bumps, but several engaging performances, a few good laughs, a likable score, and a bright, colorful and entertaining production that moves swiftly.

Immediate standing ovation.

In the audience today, fourth row aisle, was Danny DeVito, accompanied by Rhea Perlman. When he returned to his seat during intermission, the audience gave him a rousing ovation. He and Danza go back a long way...

My conclusion, from observation and hearing post-show comments, is that the show will get terrific word of mouth and will run. Danza seems to have a large fan base.

The stage floor is extended out over the orchestra pit, and much of the show takes place down front - almost in our laps. I viewed the stage from various places after the show and thought every seat downstairs was great - even the corner seats in the last row. I think front mezzanine is also terrific for this show.
